: I believe my board is fried!
Hi, I own an Asus TUF FX516PM. During a recent dusting session with a plastic tool, a spark occurred from the battery, which then caused it to stop working. Now it doesn’t power on, the LEDs remain inactive, but the CPU and GPU continue to overheat. There’s no display, and the fans are not running. Is there a solution?
Welcome to the forums, newcomer! Can you run the laptop without the battery but using the power brick? If this doesn't work, then you'll need to take the laptop to a certified repair shop because I think your laptop is past its warranty period. The issue of the CPU and GPU getting hot suggests there might be a problem with the board.
Ditto on Lutfij's advice. Removed the battery, pressed the power button for about 20 seconds, left it out, and then connected the power brick. Wait 10 seconds for the circuit to charge, then press the button again to check if it works. If not, you'll need to return it or take it to a store.
Thank you for the clarification. I was only attempting to steer clear of that possibility!
