I attempted to use AMD Auto Overclock, but now my PC frequently freezes.
The display either turns black or shows strange visuals afterward.
Computer Specifications: Desktop system
GPU: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB Video Card
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Board
BIOS Version: 3024
RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory
Power Supply: Super Flower Leadex V Pro 1000 W 80+ Gold Fully Certified Modular ATX
Case: Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact
Operating System & Version: Windows 10 Education 10.0.19045 Build 19045
GPU Drivers: AMD Adrenalin 25.3.1
Chipset Drivers: AMD B650 6.07.22.037
Background Programs: Chrome, Steam, occasional idle games such as Spirit City: Lo-Fi Sessions
I tried the Auto-Overclock option in AMD Adrenalin. Prior to that, I had manually adjusted settings and it worked. However, once I enabled Auto-Overclock, my PC became unstable. I’m unsure if this indicates a general system issue.
It appears both my GPU and CPU were overclocked, which led to the PC failing to boot afterward. I had to repeatedly power it on and off before it finally started. During startup, I encountered numerous Windows error messages; I should have monitored them more closely. I attempted to use the BIOS flashback feature on my motherboard to reinstall the BIOS while the PC was off, but it became unresponsive. The BIOS was clearly corrupted, though I updated it with the latest version once functionality returned.
Eventually, the PC resumed operation. I disabled Auto Overclock and reverted to my manual settings. I think returning to the original GPU configuration would be better, but it seems my problems worsened immediately after these boot issues.
It often freezes briefly, then either static artifacts appear or the screen goes black temporarily. This has only happened when switching between idle games, Steam, or Windows Security—other times I haven’t seen it.
I attempted to uninstall and reinstall the graphics driver, updated Windows, ran sfc /scannow and DISM commands, and plan to update the chipset driver now that I’ve forgotten about it. What might be causing this? Thank you ahead of time!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
BIOS Version: 3024
The current BIOS version is 3222;
https://www.asus.com/motherboards-c...es...-PLUS-WIFI
In Safe Mode, use DDU to eliminate all GPU drivers (intel, nvidia, amd), then install the newest driver from AMD's support site via an elevated command—Right click installer > Run as Administrator.
I'm attempting to update my chipset driver now because I overlooked it.
The most recent information available is
7.02.13.148 according to their support page;

Thank you for the friendly greeting! I was expecting 3024 but found 3222 in the BIOS. I switched off the AMD GPU drivers using DDU and installed the newest version right away. I also updated my chipset drivers just now. Despite these changes, I'm still facing problems; Steam hasn't caused any issues yet, so it's just Spirit City: Lo-Fi Sessions at the moment. I'm hoping I won't run into more problems later. Do you think there might be another cause for these issues?

I was testing a little, and it looks like these problems cease if I switch my refresh rate to 120 Hz rather than 144 Hz. I updated my BIOS to reset all my CPU, RAM, and GPU configurations (in Adrenalin for the last one), but that didn’t solve the issue on its own. Does this suggest there’s definitely a problem with my GPU or monitor?

I'm also dealing with a stability issue with my RX6800XT (MSI Gaming X Trio) using a 144hz refresh. I changed from display port connections to a straight-through HDMI connection, which now caps the refresh at 72hz on my monitor. All stability problems disappeared, even when I undervolted and overclocked it somewhat. I'm unsure if the issue is with the monitor or the GPU, possibly the display port cable, but I didn't buy a premium DP cable to test. I'm content with 72hz refresh because I mostly play triple-A games.

BTW: keeping BIOS updated can be beneficial for security, but it's wise to reset CMOS first if overclocking fails, particularly after using an automatic overclocking tool.

I see, that is interesting that you’re having a similar issue. I tried to switch to HDMI; but I’m unfortunately still having this issue. It seems like it’s fixed if I switch to 120 Hz or disable Free Sync; the first option is definitely preferable. Maybe I’ll try another DP cable though my current one is apparently VESA certified and all that. Also, I’ll try to reset the CMOS. I’m just scared I’ll short out the wrong thing… Thanks!

Remove all power from the system by disconnecting the power cable when you short the CMOS pins. This ensures no risk of damage if you select incorrect pins. However, this method isn't effective if you're unsure about the pin configuration. An alternative is to remove the coin-cell battery while also taking the power cable out. Leave it out for a few minutes so the CMOS memory cells can fully reset. The drawback is that some systems need to take out the GPU to access the battery, which can be inconvenient.

Thank you! I felt much more at ease after reading this, so I proceeded with the steps. I obtained the correct pins and cleared the CMOS. Should this also clear my saved profiles? I saw the screen indicating that my BIOS settings reset and all settings were restored to defaults. Yet, my profile remained; is this normal? I’m still facing this problem, so I’m trying to ensure I did it correctly and hopefully resolve it.
