I searched online for help, but the Windows 10 upgrade guides didn’t clarify my situation. My system has six drives, two in a RAID 0 setup, and I need to upgrade without losing personal files or games. I’m hoping to back up everything beforehand to avoid reinstalling programs after the upgrade.

It impacts just the files on your boot drive.

It only shuts down Windows 8.1/7/8 and moves Windows 10 files onto it.

You can keep both apps and files safely by saving them. I use three drives in my system. The 500GB Crucial MX200 SSD holds my operating system and a 1TB WD Black for Steam games, while the 4TB WD Red stores fancier content like FAP material. It only impacts the drive where I installed the OS, leaving the others untouched.

In theory, everything should work exactly as before after the upgrade. Thanks. :-) I’ll still make a backup just in case, being cautious. Lol.

Absolutely, I felt just like that before starting the upgrade. I made sure to copy everything onto my 1TB drive and an external backup drive, then unplugged them before beginning. I didn’t lose any files, which gave me a bit more confidence. I thought having three copies of each file would be enough, even though it might have seemed excessive at the time. Still, I wasn’t going to blame myself for not saving everything back when I had two backups.

I'm the same, but I always follow the guidelines carefully. Sometimes things go wrong, though, and I end up frustrated because I didn't have enough backups. I've learned from my mistakes and now use three external drives for extra protection. Lol

For a Win10 solution without issues, a fresh installation is likely the best choice. I recommend going ahead with a clean install after the upgrade.
