It's late, but I should have mentioned I've tried Auto, XMP I, and XMP II already. If it were memory issues, I'd expect the video to halt and screens to freeze rather than just turn black.
Consider testing memtest86 tomorrow night (about 4 hours for a 32GB drive). You might also try Run 3dmark stresstest, Run IntelBurnTest, or Cinebench 23. Unplug everything, reset the GPU if possible. Edited July 14, 2023 by leclod
Verify your power connections to the 4090, confirming they’re firmly in place. Are there any spare rails on the PSU you could use for a different GPU power source? Look at the event viewer—any driver issues, device drops, or disconnections? It seems Windows is dropping the GPU device. That should be logged there. Are the drivers working? Consider using a DDU and reinstalling Nvidia drivers. Check your BIOS settings—make sure PCIE isn’t enabling low-power mode. Also, I’m a bit frustrated you’re left idle after work; I’ll wait until the kids are asleep before I take some time for myself, assuming my wife decides whether we’re hanging out or not.
Thank you for your feedback. I’m using the new 12VHPWR setup, which only has one port. In the event viewer it shows the system was rebooted, all BIOS are current, and I’m grateful for the peace. With my youngest back living with me and caring for my father after his third stroke, I truly deserve this moment of calm. On a personal note, remember this as a precious gift from a widower—time with your partner is irreplaceable. I need stability now; I require that hour after work before the caregiver departs and my night shift begins.
I noticed a previous message mentioning someone switching from PCIe 4 to 3 mode randomly, leading to GPU crashes. There was a CMD command suggested to verify if this issue affected the bus. However, I’m having trouble locating it now.
Gigabyte tested it for 18 hours no issues were found; here is the rub; I have been running this system with an old 1660 Super I had in my junk drawer and it hasn't crashed once, so I guess I will replace the power supply now. I got custom cables for my Thermaltake Tough Power GF3 1350w ATX 3 0 power supply so I get to take it all apart again, rewire everything and buy a new power supply and cables, Just not my year.
