The performance is limited by the 1.5GB VRAM, but visuals are excellent with tessellation and advanced features like NVIDIA shadows. The main challenge seems to be with the Phenom II hardware itself. Many users report difficulties running the game at high settings, possibly due to compatibility or power constraints.
It would take your 960 model an unbelievable amount of time before it ran out of VRAM, causing noticeable lag. In contrast, your 290x handles the game at full settings with no additional assets, maintaining around 50-60 frames per second while using roughly 3.9GB of VRAM.
Hey, the Phenom II in my laptop with the MR HD5650 can handle almost any modern game.
Phenom II x4 4.15ghz with 8GB DDR3 RAM at 1708MHz GTX 580, downclocked to 850MHz. I normally use 980MHz but prefer quieter performance.
I experienced a drop to 48 FPS during fast city runs, but it feels quite smooth. It doesn’t seem like much is straining my GPU, and I think adjusting a couple of settings could help. I increased 2x MSAA and now hover at 45-55 FPS. Applying my GPU overclock should restore the performance—really impressive compared to GTA IV!
