I just turned on Hyper-Threading on my CPU. They said it would boost performance by 30%, but that turned out to be wrong. In fact, it hurt performance—by about half! My PS3 emulator ran smoothly on my old i7 2600, but with Hyper-Threading enabled everything slowed down. Now I’m at around 45 FPS with it on, and 20 FPS without. What’s happening here? My PC seems to be acting strangely, and I’m not sure how to fix it so Hyper-Threading actually helps games run better.

In typical games you'll notice a significant improvement in performance. An emulator behaves differently, particularly with the PS3 version. It was a real challenge to develop games for it, and this program may not handle hyper-threading well.

They told me a setting would assist, but it didn’t work. I think I might be missing a configuration. If not, then Discord itself could be the issue. I’ve lowered the SPU and PPU threads to ease stuttering, which might be the fix. There could be another factor at play.

The i7 is 12 years old, which isn't ideal for emulation. Hyperthreading was typically enabled by default, providing the 8 threads from a 4-core processor. Have you ever turned it off?

I never powered it down. I switched the CPU to this one, and my previous model lacked hyper-threading. This processor is actually the top performance my motherboard supports.

Check if the Task Manager displays 4 cores and 8 logical processors. Swapping a different CPU could reduce it to 2 cores and 4 logical processors. If this happens, use msconfig, go to the Boot tab, click Advanced options..., and ensure the Number of processors is unchecked. Restart your system afterward.

Hyper threads boost performance by roughly 20 percent compared to a single core. Emulators don’t understand what hyperthread or core means, so any task sent to them performs well since games can handle light workloads.

It's possible the CPU you purchased isn't ideal. You might want to verify if your software supports core pinning. https://www.google.com/search?q=rpcs3+hyperthreading The results suggest there could be problems depending on your needs. Generally, hyperthreaded processors boost performance by about 20-30% per core with minimal drawbacks. A more recent, used system might have offered better value overall. Affordable refurbished office machines are available too.
