I just built a PC for my friend and surprised him with for his birthday...plot twist...He wants it as a HTPC.My question is there any way by which I can use the PC as a hybrid when needed switch to HTPC mode and when needed as a PC. I read about OSes for the same and would prefer not to do a second OS on it.

You mean activating the HTPC setting on any device that supports VLC playback. It simply requires linking the computer to a TV and audio system.

Are you questioning why you must use a different operating system for an HTPC? It’s possible to run Kodi inside Windows. Why not?
