HTC Vive/Oculus and PSVR game quality review for PC/console enthusiasts.
Good morning.
So i don't have a capable PC to run these vr-sets just yet. On the other hand my friend is selling his PSVR V2 for i must say dirt cheap. With all the bells and whistles, 2 move controllers, camera yadda yadda bim bam boom. He's gonna hold it for a week, so i can decide.
My question is:
What is the state of VR games in the terms quality and polish.
I'm in the middle of building the pc (waiting for that ryzen 3600/X) but i don't know if should buy the psvr and run with it or build a rig and save some money for the htc etc.
I'm mostly interested in "fun" factor. Maybe some of you used both type of platforms so you have a direct comparison. I also read that psvr will be compatible with ps5 so that's a plus?
For PC, the games perform better because you can run them smoothly at 1080p with steady 60 fps on high settings. Higher resolutions improve the experience, though some users report lower FPS and quality after using powerful hardware. Playing in low resolution feels unusual based on personal experience, and I haven’t played at that setting. You’ll find more affordable options like VRChat and Beat Saber, while Sony often filters content, which might affect PS4 compatibility.
PSVR is actually quite good... though it doesn't match the visual sharpness of a rift, especially when you take advantage of the super sampling from a strong graphics card. Still, the headset feels comfortable and it performs adequately.
That said... the PlayStation games are indeed enjoyable, with some exclusives being particularly nice. But with a PC VR headset, you can explore a much wider variety—like racing sims, flight sims, VR porn, movies, etc.—and Steam offers an endless selection, many of which are free. There are numerous options, and a lot of them are great.
Overall, it looks like you're likely planning to get a PC soon? New headsets are also on the horizon—Oculus Rift S is already pre-ordered, Valve Index, and HP Reverb are coming. A lot of high-resolution sets are expected soon. For someone with a Rift 3 sensor, upgrading would be worthwhile, and I’d probably sell my Oculus for around $200 or less with the 3 sensors and cable extensions.
If you were me, I’d stick to PC VR and put PSVR on the backburner at least for now—it’ll serve you much better in the long run, unless you can afford both. If you do, I’d suggest getting PSVR first and then investing in a PC VR setup later.
