I'm currently interning at a school district that's updating its network infrastructure. I studied networking using Cisco equipment (I hold CCENT) and wondered about HP/Aruba switches—do they support Standard and Extended VLANs? I've looked into the topic but haven't found any information, so I'm curious if anyone in the industry has insights. Thanks! Zack

You're asking about the meaning of extended VLANs, such as ranges like 1-1005 and 1006-4096. It sounds like you're wondering if this terminology is still used today or if it's outdated. The concept of VLAN extensions has evolved, and while "standard" and "extended" might not be perfectly defined across all systems anymore, the idea of using larger VLAN ranges is still relevant in modern networking.

I own an Aruba S2500 with no built-in VLANs beyond basic configurations. I manually assign a VLAN from 1 to 4094. The extended or standard VLAN setup comes from Cisco, not an official standard.
