I built a system without knowing what to do, thinking I’d get an i7-6800k. I didn’t realize I needed a x99 chipset, so I ordered it. When I found blogs about HP Z440 motherboards, I assumed they worked with a C612 chipset. I ordered the Z440 but didn’t notice it had a special PSU setup. After some research and passion, I changed my 1300W PSU to fit the 18-pin connector, swapped the 12-pin CPU power slot for an 8-pin and added an 4-pin CPU slot for my memory. I installed the CPU and Vega GPU, but when I tried to boot, there was no power. Double-check the 18-pin connector with a multimeter—it looks correct. Why won’t it power up?

Moved to troubleshooting section C612. You should still be able to run a 6800K, possibly without needing a PSU upgrade. There might have been other issues like missing fans, incorrect memory, or power mishaps. Detailed images would really clarify the problem. If you're right, you swapped parts for an i7-6800K, used a board with a different socket, installed HP hardware, and modified your PSU—yet the system still doesn’t work?

In the first image you shared, the upper portion of the board doesn’t seem to show the 6-pin connector being connected. Since I’m not an electrical expert, it’s hard for me to understand the whole PSU upgrade journey. Overall, the board appears to be struggling with power or possibly missing a connection. Just a note, does the board you purchased actually have an LGA 2011-3 socket and supports DDR4 RAM?

I apologize for bringing this up again from the old storage site. I want to avoid confusion for others. The Z440 PSU layout differs from the Z420—same connector, different wiring. Never connect a Z420 PSU into a Z440 board. Avoid using an ATX-to-Z420 adapter on a Z440 motherboard. My attempts failed without any visible issues. Eventually, I located a functional Z440 locally and decided to test the old board. When I connected the working Z440 PSU, the previous board failed. The new one ran smoothly, suggesting the issue was with the old unit (and its Z420 PSU). Good news: only the integrated sound card was damaged; other components are intact. The Z440 PSU is now inexpensive, so skip the ATX version. If needed, there are ATX-to-Z440 adapters available on eBay. I found this pinout online, but I’m still unsure if it matches the motherboard traces. Since I’m not an electrical expert, I can’t be certain.
