HP ProLiant DL360 Gen 8i with reserved hardware
I bought the HP Proliant DL 360 Generation 8 rack mount server for running dedicated Steam games. It features a dual E5-2690 v1 processor, 128GB RAM (8GB per core x 16), a 6-pack Samsung 146GB SAS 15K HDD, a 500GB Crucial MX500, a 420i RAID controller, a Broadcom Netextreme 4-port NIC, and Windows Server 2019 (standard edition). I’ve configured MSConfig, disabled Hardware Reserved Memory, and verified all BIOS settings. After running MEMtest, no issues were detected. I double-checked every bios parameter I could find. During startup, the system reports 128GB RAM installed, but Task Manager lists only 64GB with hardware reserved. I’m puzzled and worried—this behavior seems intentional by manufacturers or software providers. I understand it has applications, but this is frustrating. I’ll share photos and files once I’m back home to clarify everything.
Use the HP memory configurator for online spare memory setup. Your configuration is likely set for online spare memory. https://memoryconfigurator.hpe.com/Memor...lectServer HP servers are very selective about slot usage and memory type. You'll need the HP part numbers for each RAM stick.
