I purchased an HP Pavilion system for $45, and the seller upgraded the BIOS but then sold it to me. I tried a R5 3600 and a GT620 without success. Should I try reprogramming the BIOS chip myself, or would buying a preloaded unit from eBay be a better option? Is there a downloadable file for flashing the BIOS on this specific model (Erica3_Erica5, Winbond 25Q128JVSM)?
You purchased an OEM PC that had a previously failed UEFI/BIOS update. I don’t think any effort would be worthwhile, but if you’re able to solder a working EEPROM with the correct BIOS or flash it externally, it might be worth trying. Otherwise, you’d probably just discard the motherboard.
Based on the search results, you can find an SPI header near the BIOS chip. Using an SPI programmer, you can obtain the BIOS file from HP and upload it via SPI.
The header "spi debug" suggests compatibility with SPI debugging, which the Ch341A supports via the flasher. The file should be downloaded from AliExpress as described. No unpacking is needed unless specified. Ensure no changes are made to the original file.
You obtain it from HP, via the download page for the machine it was released on.
