HP Omen is running too slow for gaming?
I'll keep this brief. I've been having problems with my HP Omen 15 en0xxx laptop (running Windows 11). I realized the issues were caused by my CPU trying to overclock itself from day one. I recently found that setting the Minimum and Maximum processor state power to 99% instead of 100% fixed all the crashes and glitches completely. However, this made my laptop run at a max speed of 1700MHz instead of the 2900MHz it should be running at (at full capacity it runs at 4200MHz). I also asked on the HP Forums but nobody answered there yet, so I'm making another post here just in case. HP Forum Post: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Noteb...es...-p/8815493 Things I've checked: The Omen gaming hub does not have any overclocking features for my computer (that I found) AMD Ryzen Master does not support my CPU. I tried other software like MSI Afterburner, CTR, and EVGA Precision but had no luck; it was either 1700 or 2900 MHz, even though auto-clocking set it to 4200 MHz. My Question: How can I make my laptop's maximum clock speed be 2900 MHz without overclocking the CPU? Can HP hard lock the CPU speed or is there a workaround, jailbreak, or something similar to adjust it? EDIT 7/27: My CPU is an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon graphics. The description says "AMD64 Family 23 Model 96 Stepping 1"
WOAH OK So this video helped: View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl4Fs-Zj...nel=legos4 I followed what was in the video and for anyone else having the same issue and can't figure it out, you can still have it enabled but this is the setting you'd want to change if you want to overclock. I couldn't see the performance boost setting before at all but it was on "Aggressive" before. I now have it disabled and I'm getting the 2900 mhz as my max!
If they can't find the files, we force them: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...F3...&FORM=VIRE : Ryzen Masters Fix
That didn't fix it unfortunately, still said that the CPU was not supported. However, after looking around a bit I found that the CPU is rated for 2900 (as stated) and changing the maximum power state changed the clock speed it set itself at, so 99% would be 1700, 50 would be like 1400 so on so fourth. But when going up to 100% it uses its rated Turbo clock speed of 4200 even though it says its actual clock speed of 2900. I'm assuming there is no way to turn off the turbo mode? I'll look through the bios since my first guess is it might be in there Edit: Nothing in the bios talking about turbo or clock speed
Wow okay so this video helped: check that link in the description if you need help. I followed what was shown in the video, and even if you are having the same issue, you can still have it enabled but here is where you would turn overclocking on if you want to boost your speed. I couldn't see a performance boost option before at all, it just said Aggressive when I started this up. Now I have turned that off and my 2900 mhz is now my new max!
That's exactly why I stopped using AMD CPUs back then lol. Intel is way simpler because everything is set up for me inside the BIOS or just by hitting one button. With AMD, it's a total nightmare—you have to manually tweak the settings in Terminal or SysEdit and try again until you get it right!
