Recently my HP desktop's Asetek liquid cooler started producing a loud crackling noise. From a technical standpoint, I switched to an air-to-air fan setup for my Intel i7-4790. Everything functions perfectly, but after replacing the AIO cooler with this fan-driven model, I’m getting a FAN NOT DETECTED error when I power on. This BIOS is quite basic and there’s no option to bypass fans like you’ve seen in other systems. I connected the fan-driven heatsink to the same 4-pin header that the Asetek AIO cooler was using. Could there be something unique about this HP K aili2 board that only works with an AIO cooler? I noticed that pins 1 and 4 on the Asetek cooler’s power connector are connected together as they were originally. What happens when you short the PWM signal to ground? I contacted MSI for a user manual, but they claim it’s an HP-specific model and haven’t responded yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I just want to avoid being reminded of a fan error every time I try to boot up. Thank you.

In reality, I’m unable to reach HP directly since the warranty ended long ago. The best option for getting a manual is through HP’s support forums. Usually, my questions get ignored when I post them.

Checked both headers—PUMP_FAN and CPU_FAN. It seems they both need to be connected, and for the pump, you’ll likely need a jumper to switch its power state. The pinout details aren’t clear yet.

I'm using the CASE FAN connected to PUMP_FAN and the heatsink fan linked to CPU_FAN. Earlier, the Asetek pump was attached to PUMP_FAN while the case fan (linked to the radiator) went to CPU_FAN.

The Asetek pump seems to work with just three wires yet uses a four-pin connector, with pins 1 and 4 connected together via a jumper wire. On most 4-pin case fans, the last two pins are usually PWM and Ground. I'm looking for a schematic of this motherboard to verify if CPU_FAN has a different pin layout than standard headers, but it's proving challenging. MSI claims this was an exclusive HP board and hasn't provided details, even though they supplied it. HP is unreachable due to expired warranty, and I've already asked on their forums without much response.
