I'm evaluating a used HP Elitedesk 800 G3 for your parents' replacement. They need compatibility with Windows 11, so I'm checking if the Mini model supports it. The supplier lists i5-6500T processors and mentions Intel’s socket information on their site. It appears both 6th to 9th generation processors share the same socket, which should work for the newer models.

The socket remains largely unchanged, yet chipset compatibility isn't. A few enthusiasts have managed partial results with Kaby Lake CPUs on Skylake boards, but the necessary software fixes for Windows 11 on Skylake are still limited. For reliable performance, it's recommended to begin with a system that originally came with an 8th generation processor or later.

All chipset remains secured per @Needfuldoer's note. Many felt frustrated since some boards mix pin configurations between 8th and 9th generation, making even the 1.151 pins behave differently than those from previous generations. If W11 is your priority, consider an 8th-gen build instead. Alternatively, look for a separate TPM 2 module to avoid high costs.

On personal machines I’m using Windows 11 with TPM 1.3 and 4th generation Intel chips, but I’d prefer my parents’ desktop stays smooth without extra fixes. I’m considering a Dell Mini that works with 8th generation processors for a bit less cost.
