I've assembled a compact home server using parts I already had, and I've noticed my file transfers are hitting the 1gigabit limit from my internet. I'm planning to connect them directly with a 10gig link so I ordered two HP 560SFP+ Dual Port SFP+ 10GB NICs and an SFP cable online. My main PC runs Windows 11, while the server is Windows 10, so I was hoping to locate drivers for both. I found some sites offering them but they seemed unreliable. Do you have any links or know where to get official, malware-free versions? Also, will I need to install new drivers?

Based on my knowledge of Mellanox 10G adapters, Windows usually provides enough drivers. For HP 10G adapters, I can't confirm they're fully reliable, but installing drivers shouldn't be a major concern. The HP 560 seems to use the Intel 82599 controller, so you'd need a compatible driver if required.

The card relies on the Intel 82599 controller, identical to the Intel X520. Applying Intel drivers could help. Windows may already offer compatible drivers as well.

You can look for additional drivers through the Windows Updater Optional Drivers section. It’s unlikely to be the newest release, but if you can’t locate it on your own, it offers a way to get things running smoothly.

It didn't start up automatically, but you were correct—it showed up in the optional Windows updates (specifically an Intel driver). I'm not overly concerned about it being outdated; it isn't linked to the internet and is only between two devices.

Despite being HP-branded, it runs an Intel 82599 controller, which likely means an Intel driver is installed. Updating the driver can affect performance. The decision isn't just about security—it's about achieving expected transfer speeds and ensuring stability or reliability. If Windows provides a suitable driver, it's acceptable.
