There isn’t a direct method to upgrade from Windows 10 to 8.1 without a clean install. You’d need to remove the current OS and reinstall it. Swapping drives for dual booting is possible but requires careful handling—activation issues may arise if you’re not using the same license key.

It’s a reduction in quality… However, you can obtain it from Microsoft, though it will request your 8.1 key.

Looking at ten uses on my laptop suggests an improvement, so finding the accessory for a device that received a free upgrade would likely involve checking its official support resources or community forums.

Begin by clicking start, then navigate to the Settings cog, proceed to Updates & Security, Recovery, and select going back to a previous build. You might not have enough time, as availability depends on your upgrade timeline.

I've already attempted that, but it pushed me way back into the malware warning screen again.

The laptop should have 8.1 built in, and the key is probably in your BIOS. You likely won’t need it, but I extracted it from my last 8.1 install using ReadWriteEverything to save a copy. Follow the steps from the link provided if the instructions are still valid.

You can definitely use a separate drive. Just make sure to back up your data before wiping the current one.

That's correct! Now you're ready to focus on the drives...
