What MS files are you talking about? If you bought the game on Steam, everything the game needs to run is in the Steam download, which is then stored in the location specified as Steam's default library. Why would you need to change the owner of the files, if you bought them already? They should be your files already. If you are having issues with your game not functioning properly, you need to contact Steam Support, then. They can issue a refund, or help you get your issue sorted. If you bought the game on Steam, then it doesn't matter if your Game Pass will expire, because you will still own the game. On Steam. If you have been playing the game through your Game Pass, though, and not through the version you bought on Steam, then you will lose all your progress, because the two versions are incompatible. What is sounds like, though, is you think you can download the game to play through Game Pass (a rental service), and then keep the game without paying for it by copying the files to another location. But, you are out of luck, because developers have spent many years making sure things like that don't happen. If you enjoy the game, pay for it. If something is wrong with your purchased version of the game, contact the proper service's customer support.

Apps and games from the Microsoft Store are designed to run only on Windows by default. This is part of their DRM or sandbox setup.

From my understanding: Op received a free trial with a game pass instead of buying the game outright. The confusion likely comes from Steam thinking they made a purchase when they actually got access through the trial. There’s no way for Op to trick Steam into believing a purchase occurred.

You're not able to use these files. The Microsoft store and Steam store have different versions of the game. Because you've already purchased it on Steam, simply download it again via Steam.

It is not possible to unlock this. The Microsoft store files are not compatible with the Steam version; use a different source. Obtain it via Steam overnight.

It's unclear why you purchased it more than once.

He wasn’t sure about purchasing the game on Steam while also using the XB GamePass for PC, which is nearing its expiration. It’s confusing what he meant, but in reality, he technically has the game and a subscription.

You're checking if your saved files can be moved between versions or if you're trying to transfer them from your original download location to Steam's storage, expecting it to avoid re-downloading. Neither approach should succeed.

He mentioned having a game pass, was using it before canceling, then purchased the game on Steam. It seems he hasn’t wanted to re-download it recently.
