You're absolutely right about it potentially becoming an issue later, but I don't believe it's the immediate concern because the only problem with the boot drive is that it uses PCIe 2 instead of PCIe 3, which shouldn't lead to this situation at least.

It seems a bit odd, though, because even with the GTX 1080 using only PCIe 2 wouldn't lead to the reported problems.

the gpu fits in a pcie3 x16 slot without any problems regarding bandwidth, though the m.2 slot for the ssd is limited to pcie2. i'm planning to format all my harddrives and reinstall everything temporarily until i can get new drives, but it won't last long because i don't have time right now due to uni.
