Even after resolving your main issue, the built-in scaler on your display might be causing problems. As a laptop user, you likely can't change that setting. I'm using a 16:10 monitor at 1080p, and it only functions properly when I disable stretching for both my graphics card and monitor.

The issue arises when adjusting from within Windows, where everything appears correctly with black bars and distortion. Although I can now run it at 1280x720, I was puzzled why it didn’t render properly. Using an external monitor like the PS3 Display helps, but it lacks scaling features common in TVs. (It seems like a monitor itself could stretch images if needed.)

I have it with KSP, think it scales so you won’t see a black screen because it can’t handle native resolutions below a certain level. You’ll need to change 800x600 to a 16:9 format that’s displayable. The person to contact is boredgamer on YouTube/Twitter, the user.cfg expert. I usually rely on his templates and make small tweaks, but he should be able to assist you with any configuration you require.
