How to select new headphones?
Hello, I’ve been using Audio Technica AD500 headphones since 2018 and they’ve been great. But the wire on them has broken, so I’m searching for a replacement. Right now I’m considering either the ATH-AD700X or the ATH-AD900X. Do anyone have any suggestions? I mainly use them for gaming, so having clear audio is essential. I need a decent set without breaking the bank. They’ll be paired with a FiiO Olympus DAC. Thanks!

I wouldn't purchase headphones without a detachable cable right now. The ones with open backs I own, like the HIFIMAN HE400se, have really impressed me. HIFIMAN appears to offer some of the most affordable yet quality options available, and I'm confident they all include removable cables.
I don't recall any pair my friend had that were even better, but I'll revise this entry once I learn the model details.
If you're checking for detachable cables, these options seem to be the ones you're considering.
With Sennheiser you usually get a solid product, so the choice mainly depends on personal taste and budget. Since I haven’t tried either model firsthand, I can’t give a concrete recommendation beyond checking reviews to compare them fairly. My friend lent me their more expensive HIFIMAN headphones, and although I noticed the differences, it wasn’t enough to push me to spend more than double. I’m not too particular, though—I often switch between my Bose QC15, HIFIMAN HE400se, Bose Frames and Creative Outlier Free Pro+ based on what I need.
