How to select CPU and GPU for Jellyfin HMS
Decided to construct a home media server. Planning to operate Jellyfin and require the capability to handle 1-2 4k streams at once alongside 2-3 1080p streams. I possess significant experience assembling regular or gaming PCs, yet have no prior knowledge or expertise in this area.
For the processor, I’m thinking an older Intel Xeon such as an E3-1270 or W-2133. These are affordable and I’ve already found suitable boards for them, though the main drawback is their power usage. It’s worth checking if they can meet my requirements. An i7-7700k would also work, but it would exceed my budget slightly. Still, if it offers noticeable improvement, I’m open to it.
Regarding the graphics card, I’ve narrowed it down to a 1660 or an Intel A380. I’m leaning toward the 1660 mainly due to cost considerations, though I’m not entirely against the A380.
I would appreciate some guidance on my selections or fresh suggestions, especially concerning the CPU. Ideally, the chip should cost more than $50 USD, but up to $100 is acceptable.
