How to resolve the issue with RX 6700 XT on PCIE 3.0 x8 instead of x16.
Hey everyone. I've been observing through GPU Z and noticed that my RX 6700 XT is using PCIe 3.0 x8 instead of the expected x16. I found out about this just an hour ago. I've owned this card for around two years, and everything seems to be functioning properly. However, I'm curious if there might be any performance loss. My setup includes a Ryzen 5 5600, an MSI B450 Tomahawk motherboard, 32GB of DDR4 RAM at 3600MHz, a WD SN770 2TB NVMe M.2 drive installed in the only available slot, and a crucial M.2 SSD along with a WD 2TB HDD. I'm not sure if the M.2 slot is interfering with the GPU's PCIe lanes or if it's affecting performance in any way. I had to switch the SATA connections to the SSD because two of the SATA ports on the motherboard became unavailable after installing the M.2 drive. I also have an optical disc drive connected via a SATA connection on the motherboard. The M.2 drive was added about a month and a half ago, and I'm using a Wi-Fi card connected to the lowest PCIe slot. I'm wondering what adjustments I could make to get the GPU running at full x16 speeds. PSPU is an EVGA Supernova G2 850W. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!
What BIOS version do you have installed for your motherboard? Also, I’m using a Wi-Fi card connected to the lowest PCIe slot on the motherboard—does that affect anything? My GPU is plugged into the top slot, of course. Anyone know what I can try to ensure the GPU runs smoothly at PCIe X16 speeds? Here’s the link: https://download-2.msi.com/archive/mnu_e...E-LITE.pdf. Page 29 lists which PCIe slots are active and how they’re populated. Having those details would be really helpful.
Thank you for your prompt response. The BIOS version is 7C02v1J1 (Beta, 2023 release). PCI_E1 is connected via the GPU (6700xt), and PCI_E5 is connected through the Wi-Fi card (likely a Gigabyte model). You can find more details here: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GC-WBAX210-rev-10
