I received just one reply to my post—I think that’s all! I made it clear in previous discussions that I’m new to Linux and don’t update daily. Still, let’s see if someone here can offer more assistance. For those interested in the full details, check out the post I wrote this morning: https://forum.zorin.com/t/stuck-on-black...is/20132/3. If you have any extra info or questions, feel free to share—I’ll get back to you! Hopefully, someone can help me out with this. Thanks ahead of anyone who can assist!

I would set up Linux Mint Cinnamon 21 to avoid issues. It runs on Ubuntu but is reliable and well-supported. There’s also an active discussion community. We’ve been using earlier versions for over ten years, starting in 2018. My partner and I are currently on version 20.3. An organization we’re part of has only Linux Mint for about ten years.

Thank you for your input. I understand the need to resolve this and ensure her PC is working properly. If you're unsure about handling such issues or haven't used Zorin OS before, it might have been easier to ask for guidance. My goal is to provide useful solutions, not to judge. Let's focus on finding a way forward together!

It seems you probably need to reinstall Zorin again since you haven’t received any help yet. This suggestion aims to bypass the issue quickly and prevent it from happening again.

OK, that's fair enough. I see your point. Thank you for being a good human & helping me out! I might just go with a different distro this time & see how that goes...

Zorin resembles Mint closely, though some GNOME problems seem to have caused Mint's decline. It could be a contributing factor or unrelated. Wishing you success in resolving it.

The nVidea Unix driver must be reinstalled each time you install your distribution. Since you have a GTX1650 graphics card, you should place the appropriate driver on a USB drive and save it. The recommended driver number from the official site is 515.65.01. After downloading, installing it is straightforward. PCLOS handles the setup automatically.

I originally intended to mention in the Zorin OS forum that she lacks a dedicated graphics card, using only the built-in capabilities of her Intel processor.

It seems I might have misremembered—nVidea graphics is built into the motherboard, which explains the black screen issue, not the distribution. My previous comment remains the best answer. I suggest trying PCLinuxOS for a recommendation (not BigDaddy). Feel free to return if you think of it, since the local enthusiasts probably don’t know about the distro. It will detect the graphics and install drivers automatically—unlike Mint or other 'Buntu' versions.

I believe this happened after upgrading from Debian Buster to Bullseye. The screen turned black immediately. I restored my backup and repeated the process, but it stayed black. To resolve it, I booted into the black screen and used ctrl+alt+f2 to access the console—this usually worked. If this matches your experience, a command like startx should get you back to DE. For lightdm issues, I think it might have been the problem, though I don’t recall the exact solution. Let me know!
