My file manager has been having issues lately, and now I’m looking for a solution. Below you’ll find two images: one shows the home PC with the problematic file explorer, and the other displays my work PC with a fully functional interface. Both are standard versions, only differing in settings like the default view and folder sorting. Normally there are shortcuts and pinning options, similar to what’s available on the work PC. In my home PC, these features aren’t working—when I try to pin items I receive a Windows error about reading failure. I’ve run sfc scannow and dism commands, but nothing changed. The system is clean, and everything else operates correctly. I can right-click the empty area and choose “show all folders,” which helps somewhat, but it doesn’t match the work PC’s behavior. How can I bring the home PC file explorer back to look and function like the work version? Also, my icon appears in the taskbar when it’s present, but disappears when it’s gone, causing confusion. Is there a way to fully restore or reset the file explorer so it behaves identically?

It's disheartening that so few people are aware of this.

I noticed the original post and images are a bit unclear. If you need those shortcuts from one of the screenshots, folder options might be the right place to look. It seems the topic is likely about the "navigation pane."

It seems the app likely uses commonly accessed folders in Quick Access, and everything is properly set. There’s also a reset option in the View menu that can restore it.

The reset button merely restores the file explorer to its original configuration, leaving no real impact on the problem. As noted earlier, only a couple of settings are altered and they match between both systems. These adjustments don’t address the root cause of the "home" file explorer behavior. Perhaps reinstalling File Explorer could resolve the issue?
