He’s moving from an older Intel processor to an AMD Ryzen 7 and is likely dealing with compatibility challenges. I recall Dmitri from HardwareCanucks sharing his troubles with driver problems and needing to reinstall Windows. Since you’re more comfortable with hardware than software, it’s good to know whether he should back up data or if the SSD will handle it. He probably doesn’t need a new Windows key unless the current one isn’t working. If you’d like, I can guide you through the steps to help him with this upgrade. We won’t be swapping parts right away, so we can discuss the process at your pace.

Mira mentioned it would either impact Windows or not. So switch the CPU. If issues appear, perform a fresh installation to resolve them. Search for YouTube guides on how to carry out a clean install—there are plenty of helpful tutorials.

Avoid reinstalling Windows entirely. Drivers aren’t essential, but a fresh install is advised for a pristine setup. Windows may handle transitions across platforms on its own.

If it's running Windows 10, it should simply adapt to hardware changes and install the latest drivers. A quick note: 6700K isn't much of an upgrade. It's only four years old. Compared to my 4770K or folks who still use Sandy i7s.

Finally, a person who doesn't insist on upgrading the CPU every couple of generations. Also, the speed improvement won't justify the cost.
