How to record a game?
Using your CPU for encoding can be quite poor in BF4 when the bitrate exceeds 1000. A 5820k chip seems better suited for higher bit rates while maintaining smooth gameplay.
Why don't you go with 1080p? You probably want to use as high of a bitrate as possible for the best looking video possible. I try to use around 10k, but I have to encode with my GPU or my CPU will be fucked with all the extra load. But with a 5820k, you might be able to use the CPU for encoding while gaming. OBS is free so it doesn't cost anything to try it out and experiment.
Your setup supports both 1080p and 1440p, but 1080p works well enough. You won’t need special encoding software unless you encounter specific issues.
For YouTube uploads targeting a broad audience, using 1080p is standard and efficient. Encoding details are handled automatically by OBS.
I focus less on recording, but when I do, I use shadowplay. It’s great for lower-end systems or if you need something to capture quietly in the background and save it with a shortcut. The main drawback is the video quality isn’t very high. Some clips I took at 1080p are available.
It seems Nvidia still has significant improvements to make for Shadowplay.
I believe the current version works well for certain uses, especially when high frame rates matter. However, more choices would really boost the overall video quality. If they expanded this, it would be perfect. Now, if you're willing to wait a moment, Metal Gear Rising is quite similar to Crack, and I’d love to try playing it (and record a stronger session against that boss since it’s so bad lol).
