Hey everyone, I've tried looking everywhere but still can't figure out how to forward game ports on the Telus FXA5000 modem. Even the support staff seem confused. Could someone share a clear, step-by-step guide for porting STEAM or Dota 2 through the router's web interface? I usually just enter TCP/UDP ports and IP addresses, but it doesn't work. The source and destination IPs are there, yet I can't play any games. Please help me out! Thanks a lot.

You typically just need three things for port forwarding: the ports to redirect, the protocol (TCP or UDP), and the target IP address of the device you want to access. In your scenario, this is the IP of your gaming machine. You should reserve that IP in your DHCP server or assign a fixed one so it stays consistent. From the linked page, I’d assume the WAN and LAN ports match, the source IP is your computer’s, and the protocol follows the game developer’s instructions. Leave the destination IP and MAC blank. Unless you’re setting up a dedicated gaming server, you probably don’t need to forward ports for Steam. Most games work just fine without it. Occasionally it helps when you want to host something, or if you’re running a dedicated server.

Involves configuring WAN and LAN connections. You type Dota 2 port names, choose custom settings, but the system shows errors and blocks TCP ports like 27015, 27036 and UDP ranges such as 27005 to 28999.

I think my ports are closed because when I search for any game match in Dota 2, it doesn’t show up at all. It just stays inactive for a few minutes before I click cancel. This happened before with Shaw, but I sent the ports to open and they worked immediately.

Follow the correct order when entering port numbers. For example, list them in the format 27015, then 27036, and so on. If you just type them into each box without following this sequence, you’ll get errors.

It doesn't Telus doesn't know how to make a decent firmware anymore for their trash, you can only put in ONE port at a time, in the method of TCP: 27015:27036 UDP: 27005:27015:27016:27017Sadpardon me for not continuing this but you get the idea):28999 They have no coding to allow for short stringing ports to group them up like literally any other reputable Router It's is very frustrating, but Telus doesn't seem to care that the consumer might want to host a game for their friends or whatever software they are using. They save that sort of functionality for THEIR side, you can call them and have THEM set it up but that is almost as frustrating as Shaw's stupid system.
