How to play Fallout 3 on Windows 10?
I've kept Fallout 3 and New Vegas in my Steam library for over a decade, yet I haven't played them. Recently, I tried installing it on Windows 10, but it seems to be out of reach. I need to download Microsoft Games for Windows Live, though I often run into errors during the process. What steps should I take to make this game functional?
There are patches that can boost compatibility. Fallout 3 is a favorite of mine. If it still doesn’t run smoothly, New Vegas might be a good alternative—and it seems to perform better than 3.
I also attempted to download gfwl through the marketplace link they shared, but faced several installation issues. After some investigation, I located the original files within my user applications and successfully used them, which resolved the problem and got the game running properly.
Consensus reached on the underwhelming nature of the situation. Among the three (four counting New Vegas) most commercially successful console versions of Fallout, I believe three stand out as superior. Fallout 4 received mixed feedback, yet I considered it a decent, if not outstanding, post-apocalyptic looter shooter experience. New Vegas offered a more polished version with enhanced characters and settings.
I managed to get it running, but I wasn't impressed. The visuals looked quite outdated, the story and dialogue felt average, and the gun mechanics were frustrating. I played it for about two hours before quitting and deleting it.
