Not exactly what I was thinking. I understand you need two copies of the game to treat it as two different accounts when using Steam.
This would imply playing both versions simultaneously. You can always use a Steam account on almost any device you connect to and download the necessary files.

This would simply encourage individuals to cheat their way to success, if you were to use a single title across multiple accounts but on two different platforms. As mentioned earlier, you'd still require another account and need to physically possess that title within the other account's library, which isn't possible.

I’m looking for a way out but don’t have a game. I’m not sure if my friend can share a game with me so I can play.

yes you can "share" a game but not both play it simultaneously.
you can arrange this through the family settings in steam.
your personal account is linked to your friend's, allowing access to their library items.
effectively, everything in the library remains on individual devices.
you cannot play the same game at the same time.
each person has their own achievements and progress, keeping things separate.

I'm not sure about the boundaries of the family share option. My account is shared with two of the children, which means you can have at least that many. You'll need to check that section for details on sharing limits.

Also remember, only one person can be playing a game at a time, so you won't be able to join multiplayer from just one library. As long as you're aware of this, you can coordinate with others.

family share means playing one game at a time.
You, your friend, your other friend... one at a time.
