How to overclock a 5600 with precision boost overdrive?
Looking for a reliable tutorial on PBO overclocking? I'm still figuring it out myself. People often mention undervolting and unclear advice, so I'm hoping you can point me to a clear guide.
PBO should be configured as automatic. AFAIK is relevant for 'X' variants only.
my 3600 could handle PBO just fine, but automatic mode isn't the most efficient. negative voltage offset is available in advanced settings, which also depends on the CPU's ability to undervolt—some may not support it at all. this approach isn't advised since it generates excessive heat, likely hurting performance. unless you have excellent cooling (like L2 or better), it probably isn't worth trying. p.s.: i understand @Anomnomnial's view; setting it to auto and checking the results might help, though sustained gains are unlikely due to heat.
It seems there’s confusion about which variants are compatible. Initially, I thought it was about a 1700 model, but now I realize it might relate to a different version. Early generations likely don’t gain much from PBO, so my understanding might be off. Regarding performance settings, manual mode can offer better results, though it requires more testing. After some failed overclock experiences that damaged hardware, automatic settings seem safer and reduce the chance of damage.
Fast way to get that 5600 going. 200PPT/140TDC/180EDC -29CO all core plus 200MHz. This should put you in the right range. That’s what my 5600X is doing now.
it might have been, but I’m not really familiar with Ryzen 1st generations—I only picked up about PBO later. It really boosted my 3600’s output, often staying above 100W regularly, and it performed better on the single core (thanks to less heat). On my machine, I’d oscillate between +200 and -200, but I settled for -200 or zero mainly because of overheating. The real factor was the negative voltage offset—it really made a difference!
