I'm not familiar with OC settings, this hasn't been my experience before. I only have the Gigabyte app center for an all-core 4.6 and don't know how to adjust it. I'm aiming for around 4.9 GHz and want the VRM to support it, with cooling performance similar to an NH-D15S.

Have you looked into several overclocking tutorials? What BIOS settings have you adjusted? Where do you encounter difficulties?

Set the multiplier to 49, choose a starting voltage like 1.25V, and check stability. If stable, continue testing; if not, determine if cooling or voltage issue is present and adjust accordingly, such as trying 1.275V or boosting fan speed.

Open BIOS configuration. Adjust CPU multiplier to 49. Configure vCore LLC to Turbo/High mode. Assign CPU core voltage at 1.32V, increasing by 0.01V increments if instability occurs; stop at 1.4V or less, ensuring thermal limits are respected. If still unstable, reduce the multiplier and retry. Once stable, increase the multiplier again and continue testing. When the highest stable multiplier is achieved, lower the voltage to the lowest stable setting. Perform stress testing at each adjustment using OCCT\Linpack\Prime95.

I begin at a higher voltage, then reduce by 1.35v to 4.8. If the cooler struggles with lower voltages, lower it further; if temperatures are fine, try 4.9.

No need to stress test with AIDA64 unless you're targeting that specific platform.

CinebenchR20 success triggers Firestrike execution. Prime95 runs a minimal stress test; passing confirms stability. Allow roughly 20 minutes under stable thermal conditions for a reliable OC.

The official instructions from Gigabyte/Aorus for overclocking Z390 boards are available here: https://www.gigabyte.com/FileUpload/Glob...25/946.pdf. Keep in mind these tips: set the CPU Internal Loadline to auto, avoid pushing the cache ratio too high—it can lead to instability. I set it at 45 for my 9600k and it worked similarly across the latest 9th generation CPUs. Unless you experienced a rare silicon issue, your setup should perform well without extreme voltage changes.

Absolutely, but if he can handle a 20-minute session, he won’t need to worry about extended gaming periods either. (Or the temperature changes in winter, which is where I live, so my conditions are a bit more stable.)
