Convert your Windows DVD to an ISO file on another device. Then obtain and install RUFUS to generate a bootable USB drive from the new ISO. This method supports larger external storage options if needed. After creating the USB, power on your computer using it and everything should work fine.

Installing Windows isn't possible from an external hard drive at the moment. A USB flash drive is the only option. For Windows 7, use a USB 2.0 connection. Windows 8.1 requires a USB 3.0 port for installation.

This flash drive works without needing interface conversions like SATA to USB. It doesn’t require drivers and runs smoothly. The Windows 7 installation ISO is just under 3 GB, so consider using a larger file.

You can enable the USB hard drive listing feature by accessing the advanced options panel and selecting the appropriate settings. To open it, click the white triangle next to Format Options.
