Hi, I need help on how to overclock my Q9550 to 3.6 GHz and Higher. My specs:
Motherboard: P35-DS3 rev 2.1 (Version F14 with injected SLIC 2.1 and Xeon microcodes)
CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 @3.55 (stable, but after 3.6 it freezes)
CPU cooler: AIGO ICE200PRO 95W TDP cooler
RAM: G.SKILL 4 GB 800 MHz CL5, 5-5-5-15, 1.8~1.9V (Speed is at 848) (and I will be getting 4 more GB soon)
GPU: Asus GT 730 2 GB GDDR5 Kepler
I have no Case fans, so yeah. This is my current config that I have now.

If you're not concerned about electromigration and have an effective cooling system, slowly raise the CPU Vcore. I recommend adjusting in increments of 10 to 20mV, then increase the CPU clock speed using whatever method works best (such as multiplier and FSB combinations), and perform a stress test. If the system crashes and stays cool during stress tests, consider boosting the voltage. A modest NorthBridge voltage increase could help.

From the manual:
CPU Voltage Control lets you configure the CPU voltage. The standard setting meets the required level. The adjustable range varies with the installed CPU (default: Normal).
Please note that raising the CPU voltage can cause damage or shorten the lifespan of your CPU.

A user on this forum achieved 3.6GHz at 1.325V. I usually cap overclocks at 1.250V for similar chips. I wouldn’t exceed 1.300V unless you’re certain about stability above 1.400V. Don’t worry if it fails—there are plenty of guides available.

I won’t attempt risky overclocks on my Q9550, as it’s in an older TrueNAS setup—likely only mildly overclocked, not a high-performance build.

Is the magic smoke already appearing? Keeping it close to 1.4V might reduce its lifespan for the 9550. Good luck.

Nothing yet lol. No magic smoke. I may have just gotten a bad chip. Since the normal vcore of my q9550 is 1.2875V, an e0 stepping it is. I now went back to my E6750 to try overclock it for fun!

BSOD occurred. Returning to the Q9550 at 3.6 GHz seems fine. A Xeon E5450 upgrade should be simpler (hopefully).
