Hello everybody,
I’m checking if anyone has any insights into why my system can’t reach the 3200 MHz speeds in BIOS despite being set up correctly. I’m using an ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F with a Ryzen 7 2700x, a 5070 processor, 32 GB of Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro RAM in an 8x4 configuration. I tried manually configuring the speed to match the DOCP standard profile to achieve 3200 MHz, but after booting, it would loop between 2133 and 3000 MHz. After lowering to 2800 MHz, it seems stable now. Could it be that 3200 MHz is too demanding for this setup? Or are there other factors at play?

The 2700 features a maximum memory speed of 2933 at standard configurations.
Performance at 3200 might vary.
It relies on the CPU's IMC; some models will operate better, others may struggle.

Zen and Zen+ often struggle with memory controller performance, which may be the main issue.

Nothing to do with power consumption, it's minimal anyway and frequency doesn't influence RAM power.
2700x and b450 MBs are capable of 3200MHz RAM (used to run that same combo) but......
You run into same problem all consumer grade CPUs have, With 4 sticks of RAM you run into IMC (Internal Memory Controller) built in the processor overload which limits high speed memory operation. With Ryzen it helps if RAM is single rank but not much.
PS. Overclocking RAM also means overclocking IMC and each one has own frequency limit over which it's considered OC. For 2700x it's 2933MHz over which even for one stick is OC.

I struggled to get my 2600X working with two DDR4-3000 DIMMs until I adjusted the CL(CAS) settings and raised the CL from 16 to 18. Since then it's been very reliable. It maintains the same 2933MT/s maximum as the 2700X. My MATX motherboard only supports two DIMMs, but if it required four, I might have had to lower the speed, like 2600MT/s because of IMC issues. Performance differences in apps aren't noticeable.

Using 4 sticks usually keeps you within the IMC frequency limit at the same current, though it often demands a higher voltage.
