I understand, but the truth is many affordable ways to get Windows often come with similar risks. I’ve managed to turn on Windows by upgrading my existing Windows 7 setup. Some users also say they can still apply Win 7 or Win 8 keys for this reason.

I obtained a Windows 7 key last year while setting up a new HTPC build that required Windows Media Center. Since Microsoft no longer sells Windows 7 keys, I purchased one from PC Destination, which worked perfectly and had no problems. After switching to Windows 10 Pro, I bought the key directly from Microsoft, and the price was convenient. PC Destination also offers cheaper Windows 10 keys, as mentioned in their listing, though they claim to be a legitimate Microsoft partner. The lower prices there are definitely worth considering.

Avoid giving your funds to Microsoft; you're paying for Windows 10 through the data they collect from you. In the past, I've used a key reseller for Microsoft products when I needed one.

Obtain a personal USB drive you own or purchase one with at least 8GB; a 64GB version should cost around $10. On another computer, download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s website. Launch the program and run the installer using the USB drive, then it will walk you through creating a Windows 10 installation USB. After finishing, boot from the USB on your target machine and follow the instructions in the installer. Windows 10 will be available for free use without activation, though it may have some customization limits and a watermark indicating it’s unactivated. It comes from Microsoft and remains usable indefinitely without paying. If you prefer activation, you can buy a license from any authorized retailer. Alternatively, there are affordable keys on sites like Kinguin or eBay that are genuine but classified as Grey Market.

You attempted to use the media creation tool but received an installation failure. The USB drive you have is a 32GB Corsair Survivor model.
