It's simple to verify each memory slot.
Select a DIMM that shows no issues and relocate it into any unused slot. Execute a complete MemTest86 run for this new unit. Should the test return zero errors, transfer the RAM to any remaining untested slots and repeat the full scan (full pass).
Once all slots on the motherboard have been checked, if a single DIMM in every one of the four slots passes zero tests, you've verified both CPU IMC channels and a set of RAM sticks.
With this assurance that each socket functions properly and both IMC paths are active, proceed to evaluate the remaining three DIMMs, ideally starting with slot A2.
Assuming some DIMMs still report errors, note them as defective. This suggests individual units are functional, but collectively they cause instability—this is normal when using four slots.
Filling four DIMMs instead of two increases the workload on the CPU's Integrated Memory Channels (1 and 2), making operation more demanding.
It's typical for motherboards to operate smoothly with two DIMMs, even at high XMP overclock levels.
However, adding four DIMMs introduces extra bus demands on the IMC channels, leading to instability, particularly when XMP is enabled.
If all four DIMMs perform well alone, consider lowering the XMP setting and manually applying a lower speed for stability.
In some cases, completely turning off XMP might be necessary to achieve consistent performance with all four slots.
For best results, when purchasing four RAM sticks, it's recommended to buy a matching set of four. If you opt for two separate kits—each with two DIMMs—they won't provide a complete, matched configuration, even if both kits share the same part number.
These kits are likely produced in different batches, manufactured at different times, and contain memory chips from various lots. Such differences can introduce minor timing variations that may trigger instability under high XMP settings.
TLDR. Turn off XMP in the BIOS and perform MemTest86 with all four DIMMs installed, then share your findings.
Since I got b580 which sort of requires xmp, I need to have that enabled. So the question now is, can I just get 2 more sticks of 8gb (I have 1 stick from each kits now) or should I just get 2x16? The reason I'm asking is that I found a deal for the same ram, but if I were to buy 2x16 that'd cost 2.5x as much. Not sure how long the deal would last so I don't want to lose it, ideally... On the other hand, I perfectly understand that 2 sticks are much better, much more reliable than 4 sticks. But the price... As mentioned previously, I'm planning to upgrade only once ddr6 and so CPUs supporting it come out, which is expected to happen in a few years at least, so... Just thinking of the best plan of action. Like, I'd be fine getting 2x8, that's not super crazy expensive. 2x16 costs quite some more, and I just want to find the best solution for the next 2-3 years... And I want to make sure the computer will stay stable for those 2-3 years. So what's the recommendation here? The ram speed is 3200 mhz, which, while a lot, is not super crazy, because there are dimms with like 4600 mhz, which is pretty crazy, more than double that of default speeds. That sort of ram... May have been not so good to run for long periods of time...
Either way, now just waiting for the recommendation whether to get 2x8 to replace old ram and hope that it'll work fine until upgrade or pay 2.5x more and get 2x16 and just forget about problems until upgrade.
