How to fix printers on a new Windows 10 system?
Hello,
I recently set up a new PC and installed Windows 10 Home, and everything seems to be working fine. However, my printers are still not functioning. I own an HP M15a and a Canon TR4551 printer/scanner. When I connect a printer via USB and power it on, Windows shows a ping indicating recognition, but the printer appears at the bottom with a message like "Driver not available." After installing the necessary software, HP guides me to their app, which I use, but the printer remains invisible. On the Device Manager, it still lists HP with a warning, even after uninstalling and restarting. With Canon, the installation process starts with driver setup, but then stops unexpectedly, leaving no explanation. I’m confused about what might be missing or how to fix this. I’m a bit frustrated and unsure what to do next.
This happened because the printer was connected prior to the installer requesting action. Wait for the installer to prompt before connecting anything.
You definitely overlooked the correct installation of device drivers on Windows. The HP Smart App is actually malicious software, primarily designed to verify toner cartridge authenticity and display frequent ads. It should be removed immediately.
Official HP M15a Windows 10 drivers are available.
Download and install either "HP LaserJet Pro M15/M16/M17a Printer Full Software Solution" or the "HP LaserJet M15/M16/M17a Printer Basic Software Solution" for printer driver needs.
Official Canon TR4551 Windows 10 drivers are accessible.
For both printer and scanner compatibility, download and install the "TR4500 series Full Driver & Software Package (Windows)".
Error -536870329 points to a expired root certificate for the driver signing certificate, as they mentioned. It seems the expiration of the root certificate might have also prevented the Canon driver from installing properly. I don’t think manufacturers will resolve this issue on their own. What should you do now? Install both HP and Canon drivers with the disabled driver certificate option in Windows. See more details in the same thread. In Windows, go to PC settings (search for it in Start). Click on “Update & recovery” on the left. Select “Recovery” and then “Restart Now” under Advanced startup. Press the 7 key associated with “Disable driver signature enforcement.” Install both HP and Canon drivers. After completing these steps, restart your system. The printers should then work correctly.
Thanks, Krotow!
After following your advice, Windows kept asking about questionable drivers during installations, but I proceeded and everything worked fine.
Canon is now functioning properly.
👍
HP, on the other hand, remains unchanged.
The Easy Start app detected an M15a device and suggested installing its software.
Yet it insists on connecting the printer via USB, even though it's already connected and powered on.
It seems unable to recognize it...
If this isn't a driver problem this time, what might be causing this?
This happened because the printer was connected prior to the installer requesting action. Wait for the installer to prompt before connecting anything.
I completed everything correctly. I skipped the driver certificate verification, installed the software, connected the printer when asked, and the installation confirmed success. Windows also notified me that the device was set up and ready.
But when I accessed the Printers & scanners screen afterward, the HP wasn’t there. Also, opening a document to print didn’t show it in the list of printers, as if it had never been installed...
What should I do now? This is really confusing...
