I attempted to download Notepad ++ but encountered numerous confusing symbols such as "Null".

You can experiment with "Microsoft Visual Studio Code" FREE and agree that Notepad++ isn't suitable. I just tested it on a .JSON file in Minecraft, and both versions opened it properly. My son mentioned that if you use the software on a computer with non-English or non-English Japanese settings—like Japanese (shift JIS)—you need to tell MVSC to show it in the right encoding.

When the JSON file displays a bundle of "Null" enclosed in brackets, it indicates the file isn't genuine JSON but has been modified by developers using a JSON extension.

I can't believe how difficult this is. There is no option to "open with" only open. I can copy the data string and paste it into notepad and edit it but there is no way to get it back into the original location.
