I'm setting up a machine with a Ryzen 3100 and various specs, and I need to choose between Linux or Windows for dual booting. Since parts are delayed until late May, I'm planning to use the old Windows 7 laptops to grab the necessary keys. I want to set up Ubuntu and Windows 10 side by side. How do I do this?

Set up two separate partitions on your system drive for each OS. Install them on different partitions so you’ll be prompted to choose the desired boot option at startup. A 128GB SSD will quickly fill up with operating systems and essential programs, leaving minimal space for files. Consider adding a 500GB or larger hard drive for more storage of apps, games, and data. The free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 is no longer available. For a 500GB HDD, you can find one on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-C..._4dchild=1&keywords=Intellipower+32MB+OEM+Cache+WD+Green&qid=1588089197&s=electronics&sr=1-4

You're still hearing some folks mention they received the update... it might vary depending on the device used. Thanks for your patience!

You can add an SSD to support HDD caching by connecting it to a dedicated cache controller or using a software solution that manages data placement between storage types.

Despite the official end of the promotion for Windows 10 updates, it seems Microsoft continues activating users' Windows 7 systems during upgrades through the older OS. For more details, visit the provided link. The operating system remains stored on the boot drive, so it should function if transferred to another device—though some users face problems when the system detects hardware changes and disables the OS. Confirm you wish to switch from HDD to SSD for faster performance. If you have additional space on the SSD, consider using it alongside the HDD for programs or files. For software that leverages the SSD, refer to this recommendation: https://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/primo-cache/

Consider a 256GB SSD. What about this alternative? I’m on a limited budget, so it probably isn’t a large SSD.

I understand, perhaps reducing the 12GB SSD storage is an option. Let me know what you'd like to adjust!

I would suggest a budget-friendly 256GB SSD setup. It’s achievable, especially when you approach the size of your existing HDD. For a tight budget, consider bundling a 500GB HDD for $15.99 here: https://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-C..._4dchild=1&keywords=Intellipower+32MB+OEM+Cache+WD+Green&qid=1588089197&s=electronics&sr=1-4 The SSD can be split into two partitions—one for storage and booting, the other for operating systems. Use the HDD for bulk files and programs, and a separate partition on the SSD with remaining space for OS and apps. A drive caching tool like PrimoCache or your OS’s built-in feature can speed things up. * Within a reasonable price range, adding another 128GB SSD in RAID 0 is ideal for the OS and frequently used files, keeping your personal data on the HDD.*
