there are alternatives you can consider. a simpler setup might work better for someone unfamiliar with tech. instead of windows 10, you could look into more user-friendly options that require fewer adjustments and less risk of complications. many free or low-cost programs offer similar capabilities without the complexity. just focus on what she needs most—like basic word processing—so it stays straightforward and easy to manage.

It seems the release will appear in its own "mode" around 2019. It’s clear you’re focusing on the headline rather than deeper details about Windows 10 S. Worth checking out: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/educati...0s-for-edu. This section is helpful too: If your friendo needs their peripherals to fail and can’t activate it, act quickly. Have fun!

You can't.. not yet at least (Windows 10 S is discontinued, and MS said they plan to introduce "S Mode" on all editions) But what you can do for now, is Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & Features, at the top, you have an option that allows you to lock the system down to Store apps only. Any FUTURE programs and games not from the store cannot run. So she can enjoy Chrome/Firefox but can't get image.jpg.exe from an email and run it. The feature works really well from my tests. As it allows originally installed programs, so no driver issues, and you can get whatever program you want while protecting yourself

I think if someone isn't very familiar with computers, setting strict rules on the operating system can make them frustrated. They might feel the OS is too limiting and say it's unreasonable for it not to allow certain actions. "Why won't Windows let me open this image? It's clearly an image file! Windows just seems so basic."

Windows displays a pop-up that clarifies everything. For Windows 10 S, if you're not using the non-S version but have the feature turned on:
