How to disable Fast Startup?
Is it okay to turn off fast startup?
My PC has been saying on reliability history that Windows didn’t shut down properly but I have done every diagnostic test possible and it is linked to fast startup.
Also, my PC recently starts selecting the widgets and weather bar when loading into Windows and the news flyover pops out. It’s quite frustrating.
I have turned off fast startup and none of those issues occur now.
Not sure if my Windows is corrupt?
i don't believe it's corrupt, but you should be a bit more patient at first when setting up windows. there are many features that need to get ready before it fully functions. it takes a little longer than just showing the desktop. you can also turn off or remove some widgets and other elements if you're not using them. this saves time and memory by preventing unnecessary background processes.
Fast startup and quick boot are almost unnecessary today with the speed of SSDs, making the benefits of fast startup now minimal.
But the issues you mentioned are unusual. They could stem from a power problem, file corruption, or even malware. I recommend performing a Malwarebytes scan just in case, along with a
dism and sfc /scannow. Do you have a reliable PSU that provides sufficient wattage for your system?
Additionally, just to be safe, do you always shut down and restart through the Windows startup menu? Avoid using the physical power button for this purpose.
Thank you, I indeed wait for the PC to load completely, yet it appears the weather widget is automatically chosen, causing the flyover to open without delay. This does not occur when I disable fast startup.
Thank you, I completed DISM. Checked all parts - SSD, RAM, PSU, etc., and everything is working properly.
Yes, I always power off the device via the start menu.
In my experience, I've resolved numerous strange issues across multiple computers by disabling Fast Boot. This has become my standard approach when setting up new systems or laptops.
