How to delete the toolkit.telemetry.cachedClientID setting in Firefox
Hi there guys
is there any method to delete that annoying ID in Firefox?
when I open About:config and clear the ID after about two minutes, it comes back the same.
the same happens with browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.impressionId—removing the ID and restarting Firefox gives a new one.
if anyone has any tips, I’d really appreciate it.
Each Firefox download comes with a distinct ID - gHacks Tech News. Internet users who get the Firefox web browser from the official Mozilla site receive this unique ID attached to the installer during installation and the first use. www.ghacks.net indicates that you cannot remove it, though you can install without it if you adhere to the guidance provided.
I can't figure out why I had to do a fresh OS install and change many settings, which took me about three days before installing the new software.
sorry i didn't understand what you're saying my en isn't that good.
the problem is that i can't remove the IDs from toolkit.telemetry.cachedClientID and browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.impressionId, but when i clear the values in About:config, they reset again.
for toolkit.telemetry.cachedClientID the id restarts after 2-6 minutes,
and for browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.impressionId it will generate a new one.
It does not seem like you can remove it once it's there. Sorry but that's what the info I can find says.
Turn off telemetry in the settings is about the best you can do
I notice that some sites and trackers can reveal the ID, but only Mozilla does this.
i'm not entirely certain about this, but from what i understand, this is intended internally by mozilla to distinguish installs from downloads. they don't display ads and prioritize privacy, making it unlikely they're using it for those reasons. that's all the information i've found on the subject. ff being open source means anyone can examine the code. if there was more detail in the id, someone would probably have shared it already.
