It was recently down for a while, but is now back online. Your choice is welcome. I tend to favor Windows 7 over 8, though...

I just looked at my system. The product key on the computer matches Vista, but I have Windows 7 Home Premium with its own key. I didn’t realize I handed it over to a friend to repair and install a new OS.

I'm also in that camp, but 8.1 brought some meaningful updates that helped it become more manageable. The most noticeable improvements are the start button which switches between desktop and start tiles or apps, plus the taskbar that displays what's open and running. When you open an app, you can still use the usual minimize, resize, or close options with X. I don’t think it’s perfect compared to 7, but after experimenting with 8.1, I’m satisfied. Plus, getting 8.1 Pro for under $20 is a great deal. Linus tested it and noted better performance and a lighter overall feel. So yes, I’m sticking with 8.1 despite my frustration with 8.0.

This Windows 7 key works on a fresh installation too, though it’s usually limited to a single system at a time. Some users have tried bundling multiple licenses, but I’m not entirely sure about that practice.
