Hi, I bought an OPPO 5G CPE T1a router. It has very basic settings and only two LAN ports. I want to buy another router to set up VLANs for monitoring things like TP-Link ER605. Since the Oppo doesn't have bridge mode, how can we connect them so they work together properly?
You don't have many choices here. You connect your TP-Link's WAN port to the OPPO's LAN, act as a router behind another one, and deal with any double-NAT problems if they happen. The OPPO router probably has a feature called DMZ or Port Forwarding that can fix most of these issues.
I didn't check that router closely before I answered. Now I see it's actually a mobile broadband router. Most internet connections don't give you your own public IP address, so even if you remove the OPPO router from between you and the ISP network, someone else in that network is doing NAT (which means they handle all the routing). It mostly doesn't matter; you can turn off both the WiFi radios on the router and just pretend it acts like a standard modem. You can't really fix the NAT problem, but aside from that, having an extra router along your path isn't much of a downside.
This setup will have no problem with NAT because I am currently using my ASUS AX router, which is much better than this Oppo 5G CPE T1a router. Please also remember that your other router already has the wifi SSID names set up. You need to log into the Oppo 5G router and write down a quick list of two things: the IP address range for its DHCP server (the pool it uses) and the main IP address of the 5G router itself. Then, turn off DHCP under LAN, DHCP IPv4, and disable both Wi-Fi bands (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) under the Wi-Fi settings menu. Plug an ethernet cable (LAN cable) from the other router's WAN port into the LAN port of your Oppo mobile router. Connect to your other router's wifi SSID and change the WAN IP address to something inside the range set by the Oppo 5G router's DHCP server, make sure the subnet stays the same as for the Oppo 5G router, and set the default gateway to be the IP address of the Oppo 5G router. Also, make sure your other router's WAN is changed to a static IP address and that NAT is turned on. After all those steps, everything should work fine! 👍
I tested several options on my CPE stick to connect to the TP-link AX1500 router, but nothing worked. The router shows I'm online and its 5G port lights are blinking too. However, when I use Wi-Fi, there is no internet at all. Can anyone give me a fix if you've already tried something?
