Hi everyone, I'm getting sick of how loud the Wraith Prism is and want to turn down my stable 4.0GHz on the 2700X until I get a cooler that's quiet enough. My goal is to have better balance for everyday stuff like browsing and office work, while keeping performance up when I play games and listening to music through headphones. I've changed the Windows power plan to Balanced and used Ryzen Master to set the Auto profile.

I'm getting different numbers on HWMonitor, Ryzen Master, and Task Manager. The average numbers from both HWMonitor and Ryzen Master when the system is idle show most cores spinning at 2.2GHz, but they are jumping around between 2.0GHz and 2.8GHz. Nothing weird here. But I noticed that one or two of my 8 cores are always shooting up to 4.2GHz or 4.3GHz. Plus, these specific cores keep changing back and forth all the time. For example, sometimes core 2 goes to 4.2GHz for a few seconds, then comes down to 2.2GHz, while at the same time core 7 shoots up to 4.3GHz... and so on.

As for Task Manager, I'm guessing it's just because it only shows one number, so the average looks wrong? Is this right? Question two: Is it normal that 1 or 2 cores are constantly running at a much higher speed like 4.2/4.3GHz all the time? Question three: Is it normal for those same cores to keep changing their speeds back and forth? And question four: Do you have any other tips I can try to get my overclocking more balanced? Thanks so much for your help!

Yeah, you can go into advanced settings and see every single thread. Yes, the computer is listening to requests from the operating system and software programs. Usually, it's better if a specific core gets stars in Ryzen Master because those cores are the strongest ones. Look at core #2, but honestly, I'm not sure what you mean by "balanced." The only way to make that work would be to change the CPU multiplier manually so the speed stays the same no matter what happens, though I can't tell why you'd want to do that.
