How to adjust your RAM to 3400MHz safely
I recently upgraded my system to an i7 6700k and trident 3400mhz ram with an Asus z170a motherboard. Before that, I had a gigabyte z170 hd3 which failed when I adjusted the RAM settings to XMP. I'm new to this and worried that changing XMP again might cause another failure. Is there a way to normally set my RAM to the expected configuration at 3400mhz?
Configured it to xmp, everything should work. You can also adjust the settings directly in the BIOS by entering a four-digit sequence on the RAM.

Just configured it to xmp, everything should work. You can also adjust the timings manually in the BIOS (physically on the RAM using a four-digit sequence). I'm confident the gigabyte is acceptable too. You might just need to reset the CMOS by unplugging the jumper for a while.
