Hello all,
My question is not about the safety or reliability of BitLocker. I’m asking whether using it—especially for a single drive—might harm that drive over time. Specifically, if the drive is constantly decrypted and data is moved to the encrypted version, could this affect its health or performance? Should I check the SMART data before turning on BitLocker, or is this not important for risk evaluation? My hard drive is fairly old, and I don’t want to add stress or speed up any wear by enabling this feature. I have multiple drives, but I’m only considering BitLocker for one of them.

Thank you, I didn't mention having two operating systems, Windows 7 and Windows 10.
