I strongly dislike Windows 11! I’m unsure if I’ll ever use W11 again. I’ll keep using W10 for as long as I can. The main worry is the security problem. What’s your experience with Windows 7 in 2024?

It's best to avoid using it for any online activities due to security risks. As time goes on, its safety decreases because new vulnerabilities are discovered and not addressed.

Antivirus alone can't fix the issue of missing security updates for the operating system. A solid antivirus solution helps reduce the threat, yet using a system with outdated updates in your network remains a significant danger.

You're suggesting avoid running your NAS on Windows 7 SP1 unless you've applied all available updates. If used in a network setting, isolate it in a separate VLAN or segment. Stay away from sensitive activities like online banking or storing personal documents there.

Windows 7 should handle your needs, so Linux works too. Just install it—Linux Mint’s layout closely resembles Windows, making the transition smooth.
