I only possess two 8 + 6 pin cables but could require three 8-pin cables.
If I bought an adaptor, it would make sense to distribute the load between the two ports if available on my PSU.
Therefore, plug in both the 8 pins and the pigtail of the spare 6 pins into a 2x6 pin -> 8 pin adaptor.
If two 6 pins equal 8 pins, then technically the connection fits within expectations.
However, I’m uncertain whether linking two separate PCIe power ports could cause problems, such as one port drawing more power than the other.

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
I only have two 8 + 6 pin cables but might need 3 8 pins.
Thumbs up with PSU's, if your PSU is missing connectors for your build you either have:
a) the wrong PSU for the build
or b) the wrong components to pair with the PSU.
The PSU is an old EVGA 650W.
How old is it?
To clarify, EVGA is the brand of the PSU while 650W is the advertised wattage of that model, since EVGA offers several units. What model is your unit? How much power did it deliver during its life?

Please list the specifications for your build like this:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
